In the late 1990s, many of my commissions came from magazines, requesting portraits of well-known people—Hollywood stars, influential figures, and leaders across various fields. Once these images were released from embargo, they were syndicated worldwide, which brought in additional income. I had long forgotten the extent of this archive until, one day, it arrived on my studio doorstep after the agency, Headpress, had closed. Interestingly, I had forgotten about many of these commissions, but seeing them again brought back clear memories of each shoot. Sorting through this archive was a pleasure—the only screen was a lightbox, and I loved the tactile experience of handling those small bits of plastic.
