For over 15 years I've been making portraits of The Big Issue vendors. Some of these courageous people have endured various challenges, and some continue to do so. I admire and respect their efforts to improve their lives and rise above their past misfortunes. I relate to many of these lovely souls, and perhaps this is why I enjoy conversing, spending time, then making a photograph they will hopefully like. Big Issue Vendors can earn an income by selling Big Issue magazine. The Big Issue frontline team set vendors up with selling locations, provide sales support and arranges for cashless payment options. The Big Issue supports every vendor to run their own mini business, buying and selling the Big Issue magazine each week.
